• The Interoperability Institute makes any national healthcare roadmaps a reality through the AWS powered Virtual Innovation Center.​
• IOI VIC Challenges are based on a unified community (VIC Challenge Community or VCC) with focus on both long-term healthcare business objectives and immediate business use cases​.
• VCCs foster many Challenge Events that drive solutions. Together these solutions deliver to the big picture healthcare initiatives​.

The VIC is a cloud-based, virtual environment designed to address an industry IT challenge in a consensus-driven, open development model​.

A VIC Challenge Community (VCC) is a group of sponsors, stakeholders and Challenge Participants who are committed to creating one or more solutions that join together to solve large healthcare initiatives. The VCC is orchestrated by the Interoperability Institute and powered by AWS. ​

A VIC Challenge Event (CE) brings together a specific community of sponsors, stakeholders & Challenge Participants to solve specific technology challenges. Challenge Events are hosted in an open, merit-based competition to achieve the overall healthcare initiative. ​

Who is Involved in a VIC?​

• Interoperability Institute – The non-profit VCC orchestrator and results driver​.
• Sponsors – Primary funders & stakeholders of the VCC​.
• Stakeholders – Define the problem(s) & guide the community​.
• Challenge Participants – Solution builders and owners.

Build faster and go further with IOI’s state-of-the-art VIC

• IOI’s premium tier innovation space – Including use case specific synthetic data for solution testing and the Interoperability Land sandbox testing application​.
• Partner products – Available in the IOI premium tier innovation space, these pre-built capabilities will include CDRs, integration engines, terminology services, workflow modelling tools and more, that can be productionized easily, which reduces build burden on Challenge Participants​.
• Innovation space is constantly growing – With new vendor-partners and their capabilities onboarded regularly​.
• Innovation space offers a marketplace – Designed to make solutions using vendor-partner products easily productionized​.

These 5 steps are broken down into individual sessions within the Challenge Event. In between each session, Challenge Participants will independently work on their solutions.
