As the world moves to the “cloud”, the interoperability and integration of systems, services, and content outside the walls of every organization becomes an essential cross industry critical success factor. This brave new frontier is highly complex and involves a myriad of technical, financial, people, policy, and process issues. The Interoperability Institute provides a neutral space where organizations can collectively demonstrate the interoperability of software as a service (SaaS) solutions, people can learn modern technologies or standards, and novel innovations can safely encounter complex synthetic real-world scenarios before being deployed or adopted in production. This persistent space allows more rapid agile develop and reduces the cost and barriers for unaffiliated organizations to collaborate yet protects both their proprietary data and minimizes their risks of intellectual property loss. In the process of providing this neutral shared space we hope to identify best practices such as related to cybersecurity in the cloud or conformance with standards, but we also expect to create an ideal forum for professional development and novices to be mentored by experts as they collaborate.
