Dr. Michael Ackerman

Michael J. Ackerman received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering and holds academic appointments as an Associate Professor of Computer Medicine at the George Washington University and as an Associate Professor of Medical Informatics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  His work on the Visible Human Project has been recognized through numerous awards including the 1998 Johns Hopkins University Ranice W. Crosby Distinguished Achievement Award and the 1996 Satava Award for Medical Applications of Virtual Reality, and was nominated as a finalist for a 1995 Discover Magazine Award for Technological Innovation in Software and a 1996 Smithsonian Award for Information Technology.

Dr. Stanley Huff

Dr. Stanley M. Huff earned his MD from the University of Utah’s School of Medicine. He is a clinical professor in the University of Utah’s Department of Biomedical Informatics, an adjunct professor of Nursing, and an adjunct assistant professor of Pathology at the University of Utah. His expertise is in the following areas: medical information representation in database systems; standards for the exchange of data between medical computer systems, including Health Level Seven (HL7), Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC), and SNOMED CT; as well as Electronic Medical Record architecture and design.

Jim Lee, Secretary

Jim Lee has over 25 years of experience in both information technology and data research. He leads the MHA Data Services division which is responsible for the data collection and development of the Michigan inpatient and outpatient database and numerous patient safety and quality reporting systems. Lee leads the association’s health care transparency efforts as well as the MHA’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) initiatives. Additionally, he has served on the governor’s Health Information Technology Commission and is a member of the Michigan Healthcare Cybersecurity Council.

Larry Wagenknecht, Treasurer

Larry Wagenknecht is currently completing his twenty-eighth year with the Michigan Pharmacists Association (MPA) in Lansing, Michigan. Wagenknecht was appointed MPA Executive Director in 1986 prior to being named as CEO. Wagenknecht received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in 1979 and is a licensed Pharmacist and Pharmacy Preceptor in the state of Michigan. Wagenknecht serves as Adjunct Clinical Faculty for the colleges of pharmacy at the University of Michigan and Ferris State University.

Rick Warren, Chairman

Rick Warren, LCHIME is a respected leader in state and national health IT. After retiring in Jan. 2015, Rick now volunteers with several nonprofit organizations. Rick was a founding MiHIN board member, as well as being an original board member and chair of the Interoperability Institute from 2019-present. He previously served on the Velatura board of directors, as well as serving as the vice chair for Jackson Community Medical Record and as a charter board member of Jackson Health Network.

Krischa Winright

Krischa Winright holds the role of Executive Vice President of Senior Health Services, an Emergent Holdings division of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.  In this role, Krischa is accountable for the performance and development of the Medicare business unit for BCBSM, which is approaching $8B in annual revenue and serves over 775,000 members.  Krischa’s passion and drive for innovation in health care is applied daily in this evolving market, which over the next decade will grow significantly.
